Before that it was a show of wealth power and the first time it really showed up as the thing to do was in 1840 when queen victoria wore a white lace dress to her wedding, before and during that time up until the white dress was cemented by movies brides would wear black, gray, blue, whatever color dress they had. Often for those with less money it was just the nicest dress they owned. So your design is actually more traditional than the white dresses that are popular today. Trippy.
